WHITAKERS REVITALIZE AND PRESERVE

March 22, 2018 a group of concerned citizens and friends of Whitakers gathered to discuss the downfall of our beloved town of Whitakers, NC.   We found through our discussion that we all had the same concern – what has happened to our town?

Established in 1740, the Town of Whitakers, located in Nash and Edgecombe Counties, divided by the railroad track, once a busy, robust, family oriented, growing municipality.   A rural community, population was once over 1000 is now down to around 700.   Over many years of declining businesses, population reduction and the only school we had closing – this town changed!    Houses are left to ruin, buildings in our downtown area are falling in and we see no end in sight unless we do something to help this change!

WRAP’s Mission and Vision statement speaks widely of our concerns.   We want to work with entities to help us change the path that we have been on for many years.   Beautification and helping others has been a staple with our group/members since forming.   We have cleaned town streets of litter, cut back limbs and overgrowth over sidewalks and streets and helped the elderly or distressed citizens with yard work that they could not do themselves.  We also planted Knock Out Roses in front of our United States Post Office.   We most recently planted 50 Encore Azaleas that were awarded to WRAP by Capitol Broadcasting 33rd Azalea Celebration event.   We have a HEART TO HELP!

We continue to look for ways to help our town, we meet monthly to discuss options, plans and concerns – wouldn’t you like to be a part of WRAP?
